COLDS

The common cold is an acute viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, often causing runny nose, sore throat, and malaise.

Lifestyle changes: Regular exercise. Avoid hand contact with contaminated person or objects.

Dietary changes: Sugar has shown to interfere with immune function, so it is good to avoid excess sweets.

Helpful Nutrients: Vitamin C (1-3 grams per day), Zinc (15-25 mg), and copper (15mg per day).

Helpful Herbs: Echinacea stimulates the immune system and reduces the incidence of colds when taken as a preventive. Goldenseal root is often taken with echinacea, which help to soothe irritated mucous membrane in the throat. Elderberry has been shown in research to inhibit the influenza virus. Horseradish has antibiotic properties which ease the throat and upper respiratory tract infections. Mullein helps the irritating coughs with bronchial congestion. The resin of the herb myrrh kills various microbes and red raspberry help relieve some of the symptoms of the common cold, such as sore throat.
