Dry Skin

There are actually two types of dry skin: 
Simple dry skin: results from a lack of natural oils. This condition most often affects women under age of thirty-five.

Complex dry skin: lacks both oil and moisture, and is characterized by fine lines, brown spots, discoloration, enlarged pores, and sagging skin. It is usually associated with aging.

A balance of oil and moisture is crucial for healthy, attractive skin. Dry skin is most probably a genetic condition, but it also may caused by a poor diet, by environmental factors such as exposure to sun, wind, cold, chemicals, cosmetics, or excessive bathing with harsh soaps.

Recommended supplement:
- Vitamin A (25,000 IU daily for 3 months, then reduce to 15,000 IU daily), zinc (50 mg daily), Vitamin B complex (as directed on label), Vitamin B12 (100 mg 3 times daily, Kelp (1,000-2,000 mg daily), supplies balanced minerals and needed for good skin tone.

Helpful Herbs:
- Aloe vera (used topically), has excellent soothing, healing, and moisturizing properties. It also helps to slough off dead skin.
- Use calendula and comfrey in a facial sauna ( a weekly facial )
- Spray an herbal or floral water mist on your skin throughout the day to replenish lost moisture.

Lifestyle recommendation:
- Eat a balanced diet that includes vegetables, fruits, seeds, and nuts.
- Eat foods high in sulfur such as eggs, asparagus, onions, and garlic which helps to keep the skin smooth and youthful.
- Consume plenty of yellow and orange vegetables which consume in beta carotene and good source of vitamin A.
- Always moisture your skin after cleaning
- Cocoa butter is very helpful
- Eat plenty of foods containing alpha-hydroxy acids which attracts and retain moisture in skin such as, apples, milk, citrus fruits, tomatoes, grapes, and blackberries.

What to avoid:
- Fried foods, Soft drinks, Alcohol, Caffeine
- Smoking
- Harsh soaps, cold cream, cleansing cream
